Shhh...The Silence In The Trees
The silence in the trees is a project that explores the emotional consequences of the targeting of minorities through the lens of a dystopian fantasy world. Through the use of dark and sinister imagery, Kai attempts to present the isolation and terror that slowly creeps in when the whole world turns against you for being you. As a trans and queer artist seeing the rise in right wing propaganda targeting the transgender community is something that haunts his mind. There isn’t one day that goes by without news of a new law that has passed against the trans community or another death caused by the hatred and misinformation that spreads across our society.
This project intends to transport you into the role of the person that is being persecuted. Inspired by literary works like 1984 by George Orwell and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, Kai uses real life emotions and events that are currently happening to inspire his photographic work and writing.
This work has been made for every community that has ever faced discrimination and persecution, and for the people who haven't put themselves in the shoes of those who are haunted.
