Conxuro is a photographic project that explores the idea of witch hunts. Comparing the historical events with our current socio-economic situation, Kai attempts to bring attention to our past so we do not repeat it in our future. 

Growing up in Spain and then moving as an immigrant to the UK, Kai has seen discrimination from first and second hand experiences. Bringing attention to the importance of our words and actions when deciding to judge and even crucify those around us, these pictures are meant to make you feel as the hunted. Within these walls you are the witch. 

The intention of these pictures are also to show the de-humanization that these women experienced, being turned into a warning, your existence being turned into a crime, just a passage in the local executioner’s diary.

As a photographer and media artist, Kai likes to express complex emotions within his pictures that usually revolve around metaphorical and abstract ideas.

The name of this project was inspired by a Spanish song from the band Mago the Oz, their song “Conxuro” which translates to English as “Spell” narrates an old spell from Galicia which is told in the local dialect, Gallego.
